Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing disorders of the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. At Rowan Diagnostic Clinic, our gastroenterology team provides thorough evaluations, evidence-based therapies, and advanced diagnostic procedures to improve digestive function and enhance quality of life.

Comprehensive Gastroenterology Care

Because the digestive system plays a central role in overall health, even mild symptoms, such as chronic heartburn or stomach discomfort, can warrant specialized attention. Our gastroenterologists are experienced in diagnosing and treating a wide-range of gastrointestinal disorders.

Some of Our Services Include:

Digestive symptoms can appear in many forms and may or may not be signs of an underlying disorder. We often evaluate patients presenting with:

  • Chronic heartburn or acid reflux
  • Abdominal pain or cramping
  • Bloating, gas, or indigestion
  • Persistent nausea or vomiting
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Diarrhea, constipation, or blood in the stool
  • Unintended weight loss
  • Jaundice or liver enzyme abnormalities

Advanced Diagnostic Testing and Procedures

Accurate diagnosis is the backbone of effective gastroenterology care. Our specialists use a range of advanced tools and procedures to assess the structure and function of the digestive system.

Diagnostic services may include:

  • Colonoscopy
  • Upper endoscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD)
  • Capsule endoscopy
  • Biopsy sampling
  • Imaging studies
  • Motility testing
  • Liver function evaluation

These assessments allow us to identify inflammation, polyps, ulcers, bleeding, structural abnormalities, and other conditions that may not be detectable solely from symptoms. Our on-site endoscopy center allows diagnostic testing and greater convenience for our patients.

Managing Chronic Digestive Conditions

Chronic digestive disorders often require long-term management rather than one-time treatment. Conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and chronic gastritis can significantly affect comfort, nutrition, and daily function. Long-term management may include:

  • Regular laboratory surveillance
  • Imaging and follow-up endoscopic assessments
  • Medication management
  • Nutrition and lifestyle guidance
  • Coordination with primary care and other specialists

In-Office Rubber Band Ligation for Hemorrhoids

Rubber band ligation is a common, in-office procedure used to treat symptomatic internal hemorrhoids. This minimally invasive approach offers effective relief from symptoms such as bleeding, itching, discomfort, and prolapse without the need for traditional surgical hemorrhoidectomy. During the procedure, a small rubber band is placed around the base of the hemorrhoid, cutting off its blood supply. Over several days, the hemorrhoid shrinks and falls away naturally. Rubber band ligation is typically used for:

  • Grade I, II, or certain Grade III internal hemorrhoids
  • Persistent rectal bleeding
  • Hemorrhoids that prolapse during bowel movements
  • Symptoms not responsive to conservative therapy
